Srijan Anand Activity Book-2

Workbook to Learn English Language

This Activity Book has been developed for 4-6 Yrs (UKG) Kid.

Language is the medium of communication and exchange of our thoughts. This workbook is to increase the understanding of English language. Child-friendly activities have been included.

Any language is learned in the following three steps such as: -

  • Listening and Speaking
  • Reading (Picture-Letter/ Letter/Voice Recognition)
  • Writing (Drawing letters-picture, Writing letters)

If someone completes all the above three steps, will it be considered that he has learned the language? It is interesting that today computers are working on all the above three stages of language. So, the question is whether the computer has learned that language? Not only this, computers are simultaneously working on all three stages of many languages. So, have computers learned many languages? There is a definite answer to all three questions – NO.

In fact, language learning refers to the use of language with proper understanding of it, that is, ‘listening with understanding’, ‘speaking with understanding’ and ‘reading with understanding’ and ‘writing with understanding’. Thus, we see that ‘understanding’ is essential at every stage of learning. After proper understanding only, Language-specific expression is possible. This is fully applicable to the English language as well. Compared to Indian languages, the phonetics, writing pattern and sentence structure of the English language are specifically quite different.

Due to not being a common spoken language of India, it will be easy for children to learn English language through the medium of local or regional language prevalent in India. In this way, children will also simultaneously learn the sentence structure of two languages, the inter-relationship of languages, comparative analysis of their similarities and characteristics. As a result of strengthening of the hold of children on both the languages, mutual mental translation and expression will also be feasible.

The phonetics, writing method and syntax of the English language are all special. It is necessary to start all the three processes of learning the language together. But it is difficult for the children to learn English language after understanding all above three processes and even more difficult, tedious and unapprehensive for the first-literate-generation. This is the reason why most of the children follow the process of continuous writing and rote practice to learn English, so that they become able to speak and write but despite years of practice in the English language, they are not able to express their thoughts freely.

The teachers, on the basis of whose personal experience of teaching English over the past two decades this book has been developed, have done many experiments to make the above mentioned three processes of English teaching simple, easy and enjoyable. Successful results of their experiences have been included in this book.

Features of the book:-

  1. All the three activities of reading, writing and doing activities are included in the book. It also includes exercises in phonetics, writing style and syntax.
  2. Each page of this book has been prepared in such a way that the children feel newness in doing work and develop the ability to work thoughtfully.
  3. On each page, children will work with different activities such as: - colouring, drawing, selection, spotting difference and matching etc.
  4. As a result of doing some or the other activity on each page, children get attached to each page and share their experiences enthusiastically. It has also been observed that children keep the book for years.
  5. Work instructions are written in 'one' or 'two' words only for the convenience of children. In this way self-confidence also increases in children by reading and working on their own understanding.
  6. For reading pages, 'Loud vocal-reading' and 'word-based scientific teaching methods' are the basis of learning. Therefore, first of all, increase children's vocabulary by showing pictures and then practice the five stages of sound reading (see Preface of Hindi teaching). In the 'word-based' method, children's vocabulary is increased by first showing pictures. To learn the sound of the letters of the English language, practice writing Hindi names in English letters. Through this enjoyable process, the children develop an interest in the English language.
  7. The first line of the writing part of book is to try for calligraphy (Writing Stroke), the second to fourth lines are for calligraphy and painting and the fifth line is for self-writing. In the end, small poems have been included for understanding, aesthetic sense and enrichment of language.
  8. The vast ocean of knowledge can never be contained in a single book. Therefore, other learning resources such as single pictures, word cards, blackboards with English writing, toys and books are also used.
